Cycling Tour of Istria

If you are looking for a real taste of the beauty of Croatian inland and its coastline, then this is the option for you. Istrian Peninsula is the premier Croatian cycling region offering a great mixture of nature, activity, culture and history. Some routes follow the coast but most are inland between charming old towns, villages, farms, forests and hills including Mt. Risnjak National Park and Plitvice Lakes National Park.
The first two days you will spend in Pula - the main town in the Istrian Peninsula with one of the largest preserved amphitheatres in Europe. The adventure part of your holiday starts in the coastal town of Porec, a place of incredible charm and beaches to relax after cycling. Istria is the area of Teran (red) and Malvazija (white) wines as well as gourmet seafood and other specialties including famous pasta, truffles and olive oil.

Flat and downhill sections dominate this easy to moderate cycling tour while a shuttle van provides luggage transport and additional comfort.

Day 1 - 2
Transfer from Pula Airport to 4-star Hotel Park Plaza Histria for 2 nights on Bed and Breakfast Basis.

Day 3
Transfer from Hotel Park to your accommodation in Porec. The guide will meet you and the rest of the group to introduce you with the weekly itinerary.

Day 4
Cycling from Porec into the countryside towards Lim Fjord Nature Reserve, rich in flora and fauna. After exploring this beautiful protected area we will head towards the Old Town of Rovinj, a masterpiece of urban art and architecture situated on a small peninsula.Cycling: easy/moderate, 4-5 hours.

Day 5
Cycling along the Mirna River whose fertile valley is well known among gourmets for its delicious white truffles. Mirna River is 53 km long and it is the longest river in Istria. This inner part of Istria creates the atmosphere of serenity and complete union with the lush nature.Cycling: easy/moderate, 3-4 hours.

Day 6
The Istrian Peninsula is well known for its coast but the real treasures are inland. Typical Istrian towns were built on top of the hills, vineyards, fields and forests which are very pleasant for touring on a bike. We leave Porec by passenger van with all our luggage and drive to the countryside. The cycling tour includes charming hillside towns of Oprtalj and Groznjan, as well as the old rail road - Parenzana. Slowly traveling down to Mirna River Valley we will be enjoying magnificent views of the countryside and arrive to the picturesque hillside town of Motovun.Cycling: easy/moderate: 3-4 hours.

Day 7
Today's journey starts in Draguc Village, a host place for many movies' scenes. We will cycle then to another charming Istrian village of Sovinjak.Cycling: easy/moderate: 3-4 hours.

Day 8
Cycling in the Risnjak National Park makes an ideal escape from the summer heat and crowds. The route leads us through small villages and forest paths, and along the Kupa River that forms a natural border between Croatia and Slovenia. We will cycle along the Slovenian bank of the green Kupa River from Cabranka River to Brod. Passports are essential for this trip.Cycling: easy/moderate, 4-5 hours.

Day 9
There are many trails in the Mreznica area to choose from. We will start from the hotel and meander past numerous small family farms and houses. Those who still want to explore the area after the tour are free to bike to other places of interests on their own, with directions given by the guide. Optionally, you can choose to visit Plitvice Lakes National Park, the oldest Croatian national park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.Cycling: 3 hours; Terrain: easy/moderate, rolling hills.

Day 10
Departure to Pula Airport for your homebound flight.(Optionally you can extend your stay in Istrian Peninsula for another few days.)
