HOLIDAYS ON THE ISLAND OF VIS
The Island of Vis has drawn more and more people back throughout the years and this is probably set to increase due to the 2018 release of the movie 'Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again', filmed on the island. It is hard to choose which one of the thousands of Croatian Islands to visit, but if you are looking for authenticity, nature, gourmet delights and peace and quiet Island of Vis is the one to travel to. The island imparts an enigmatic feeling due to its recent history as it was the military and naval headquarter for Yugoslav navy, and therefore closed to the public and foreign visitors until 1989. Due to this isolation, Vis Island resisted large commercial development and many of its inhabitants were driven to move elsewhere in search of work, but this is what retained its charm and natural beauty.
The two main settlements on the island are Vis and Komiza, both pretty much influenced by the Venetians in the past. They are a delight to wander around and to enjoy the fresh seafood served in the local restaurants lined up on the main promenade. From Komiza you can take a boat and visit the Blue Cave on Bisevo Island, a must see when on Vis.
Sounds idyllic doesn't it? And it is!
