If you're considering Croatia as a holiday destination and are trying to decide where to go, one of the ultimate holidays must be island hopping up and down the coastline, starting in Split and making stops at Hvar, Korcula, and Dubrovnik.

Split is the second-largest city in Croatia and is seen as the hub of the coastline. The city is full of listed sights and museums. An absolute must-do is to climb the stepped streets of the evocative Varos quarter and have a drink at the Vidilica, as no other bar offers a better view than thisthe whole of Split and the islands laid out before you. Spend the evening hanging out in the old town, enjoying the ambiance of the bohemian bar Academia Ghetto Club or the permanently busy cocktail bar Gaga, just to mention a few.

Hvar is the place to see and be seen, and it is the island most frequented by celebrities; Eva Longoria, Beyonc, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Demi Moore have all been spotted eating out in Hvar.

The Island of Korcula is one of the greenest islands in the Adriatic Sea, with abundant vineyards and olive groves. Its southern coast is formed by small beaches and quiet coves.

While in Dubrovnik, visit the secluded Franciscan monastery, the handsome Rector's Palace, and then stroll up and down the elegant, car-free main street, with its flagstones polished to a sheen by centuries of walking shoes.
