An inspirational heart shaped peninsula, a land of idyllic quality where a rich medieval heritage of Roman architecture, frescoes and legends live in extraordinary harmony with a modern and sophisticated tourist centres.
Istrian Peninsula, home of the Istrian Riveria claims some of Croatia's most attractive coastal towns, some with a distinctive Venetian influence, while the Austro-Hungarian Empire has left its mark on the others. Its interior with wooded hills, fertile valleys and hilltop villages remains unknown for most tourists, despite it being tagged as 'the new Tuscany' and with the coast being so close at hand.
Istrian Cuisine - The Istrian Riviera boasts a diverse cuisine, with influences from its historic rulers the Italians, Austrians, Hungarians and the Turks all leaving a small flavour making the unique cuisine you find in Istria today. On offer are some familiar Italian foods with an Istrian twist such as traditional pastas such as fuzi, njoki, pljukanci or pasutice, cured meats like Istrian prsut or Istrian prosciutto. High-quality ingredients used in Istrian dishes such as truffles and the famed Istrian olive oil, considered to be one of the world's best, winning praise and awards in international competitions in the past few years. Seafood and fish dishes are a must have when in Istria during the summer with an abundance of fresh fish of all varieties brought ashore by the many local fishing boats that add to the picturesque backdrop so easily enjoyed with a glass of one of Istria's famed wines.
In our opinion, Istria is just a perfect and rare kind of destination just about guaranteed to give you the unforgettable thrill of discovery.
